Today is Good Friday.
The sun is shining, the air is warm. Most of my friends and family have the day off work, including yours truly. I went for a long run. Everyone I see is happy.
The grass is green. The sky is blue. The birds are singing.

Watching the passers-by : a genuine national sport in Turkey. If the weather is mild, it is almost impossible to make a seat on a sun-kissed bench. Housewives, Teyze ('Aunt', used to name an old woman), Hamca ('Uncle', likewise used to name an old man), workmen, unemployed, students... all - or almost - on either side of the city, from a table outside a café, from front steps, across their windows, indulge in this activity.
