As colours create magic on paper, so can they on water! It’s true that painting on water creates wonders. An art form that is so appealing and yet unknown to many. I was amazed to see how it is done and I am pretty sure that you too will get shocked. Here, I am talking about a Turkish art of painting known as Ebru.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved everything about it. The characters are all completely believable, the story is one which will you will not want to see the end of while dying to know what actually happened, the writing is wonderful to read and the humanity of the story is so real as to feel --- well, real.
I was absorbed for the four evenings I read this book until too late in bed.
Ottoman turks force Obama to expel Israel
The U.S. blocked Israel's participation in the Global Counterterrorism Forum's (GCTF) first meeting in Istanbul on Friday.
This blockade took place even though Israel has extensive experience in counterterrorism.
A source in Washington said Israel was excluded from the meeting because of fierce objections by Turkish President Erdogan. Israel tried hard to obtain an invitation to the meeting, and its exclusion has greatly disappointed officials in Jerusalem.
Top 10 places to visit in Turkey
I got an email recently asking me for travel tips in Turkey. I decided to answer the email publicly here on my blog so that others can also read about interesting things to see in Turkey (besides Istanbul of course). I have not visited all these places myself, but most of them are places I am planning to visit in the future.
Day 9 Turkey, Ankara
It's getting so hard to make posts as I come close to the end of the trip. Turkey is such a beautiful country, has beautiful people, great food, not to mention it is great land with many layers of civilization, Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Islam, and the Central Asian nomadic heritage.
After the vitit to the Ataturk Mausoleum, we headed over to the Anatolian Civilization Museum.
Destination: Ankara, Turkey
Plan 2 goes further.
Stuart and I are off to Turkey in a weeks time. We believe that it will be the perfect place to relax whilst feeling a bit of culture, as we have both travelled a fair bit in Europe, however didn't have the proper amount of time or budget to go further afield (Tran-Siberian was the original plan).
So we're off to Turkey and this is our plan.

We started off the day at a leather shop. All their coats are made with .....sheep skin leather! I never heard of it, it was cool. They started with a fashion show featuring yours truly... (jk)
Sadly, all the leather coats were like 4-500 euros! Sad face. Now to Ephesus! On the bus ride over, our tour guide gave us more interesting marriage facts.
Kusadasi Turkey 2012: Photo Diary
We've recently returned from a holiday in the resort of Kusadasi in Turkey. Staying in the Richmond Ephesus Hotel just on the outskirts of the resort, this holiday was purely for relaxation and of course, a bit of exploration!
The hotel was fantastic, the weather was scorching and the location was beautiful!
In total we took around 500 photos but we won't bore you with those!

Turkish Bath
Standing along Bishopsgate Churchyard among towering modern office buildings, this unusual and decorative building was once a Turkish Bath built in 1895 by Nevill's Turkish Baths Limited. The ornate building served as the entrance to the actual baths that were located underground. The bather (gentlemen only) would enter and continue down a winding staircase where he would buy his ticket and enter the cooling-room which was decorated in the style of the Alhambra in Spain.

Kaleiçi is the historic city center of Antalya, Turkey. Until modern times, almost the entire city was confined within its walls. It has structures dating from the Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk, Ottoman and modern Turkish republican eras. The Kaleiçi area is located in the centre-eastern portion of the city along the mediterranean coast fronted by the yacht harbour that dates to the Roman era.

A Birthday I'll Never Forget -- Part 1, Birthday Balloons
Cappadocia, July 17
Today's my birthday. We've got a big day planned. It's always nice to have balloons on your birthday, so that's how we start the day.
The first of three alarms goes off in short succession starting at 4:00 a.m. To avoid any risk of sleeping in, we set two alarms and the hotel called us as well. As promised, the shuttle van arrives outside our hotel to pick us up at 4:15.

#15 Göreme, Cappadocia
We spent 3 or 4 nights in Göreme, a small town right in the centre of the Cappadocia area (though if you plan on visiting it is not essential that you stay in Göreme, as all the towns in the area are well connected by dolmus. Fortunately, we were here with two of the people from our cruise and they had a pretty good idea of the things they wanted to do.

#16 Pamukkale and the rest
Pamukkale, home to hot springs and the travertines (terraces of carbonate minerals which are left by the flowing water), was fascinating.
We arrived at 5am, ditched our bags and had breakfast. At 8am (or whenever it opens) we headed for the hillside a little sceptical, many people had mentioned that this attraction was past it's time and no longer as interesting as it once was.

I came to Istanbul with no idea what I would find, but if I was worried about culture shock, that fear was quickly dispelled as soon as I dropped off my bags and headed out for dinner in Sultanahmet (the Old City) with a some new friends: halfway through our first beer, the bar across the road (Cheers) started pumping out The Nosebleed Section by The Hilltop Hoods.

On a trip to Turkey Blonde and Brunette expected to be endlessly exposed to Muslim teachings and history. This was not a case of "expecting" being synonymous with "eagerly anticipating". B&B are very egalitarian in our lack of interest in religious education of any persuasion. Avoid suffering the same unfortunate fate as the citizens of this ancient city and perishing in the summer sun. Here are some ways to stay cool and comfortable while enjoying Ephesus to the fullest:
1. Bring water. LOTS of water. At least a liter of water is necessary. There are no vendors once inside the city gates, so it is important to bring enough to hydrate yourself for the whole span of the city.

- The metro and tram systems are really easy. The bus is not quite so simple, since you have to buy tickets in advance from a shop. For the former, at each metro or tram station, you just buy a token for 2TL. You then take your token and put it in the turnstile, and walk through.
