Our week-long vacation started out in Bodrum, which is about 3 hours south of Izmir. Bodrum is well-known as a Turkish vacation hotspot, where Turkish celebrities, foreigners, and Turks from far and near come to enjoy the seafood, sun and nightlife.

Istanbul, Turkey - there are few places in the world which boast this type of  life and movement - mad swarms of people swirling about one of the oldest centers of civilization. Throughout history, Istanbul has been an immensely important and transcontinental city - linking the East and West as it sits perched between the Sea of Marmara and the Black Sea.

When entering the Mausoleums adjacent to Hagia Sophia, I was surprised by the number of coffins which were gathered inside the mausoleums of Sultans, many of which were really small. Like children’s tombs. There were 42 people buried together in green cloth coffins.

I wondered had they all died together and if so why at such a young age. Had there been any plague decimating all these princes?.
