Izmir (Turkish: İzmir) is a big urban center in the western appendage of Anatolia and the 3rd most inhabited city in Turkey. Izmir metropolitan area broadens along the outlying waters of the Gulf of İzmir and inland to the north across Gediz River's delta, to the east along an alluvial plain made by many small streams and to a slenderly harder terrain in the south.

I've been living in Istanbul for almost 22 years now and it's such a shame that I've never spared the time to see these amazing historical structures till this weekend. A toughtful friend of mine planned our weekend and took me to - in the following order - Eminönü, Yeni camii, Spice market, Rüstem Paşa Mosque, Süleymaniye Mosque, Beyazıd, Nuruosmaniye Mosque, Grand Bazaar, Sultanahmet, Moseic Museum, the Basilica Cistern and Hagia Sophia.Despite the thirty plus celcius degrees in the week, weather in Istanbul this weekend was around 25 C degrees - a thunder storm happened on sunday afternoon, got soaked-in-water wet, totally worth it, better than sunburns.

Party Istanbul

Reblogged from The Hitched Hikers:

I love watching pop music videos in different countries. Mostly because they're endearingly awful. This is one that I found while flipping through the channels at our hotel in Istanbul. It's somewhat amusing and thought I'd share, more for the cultural curiosities than anything else.

Parti Istanbul:

What's most interesting about this music video is what is NOT included. This video is an amusing "a la carte" take on western-style partying and hip-hop.In the West, hip-hop icons set the gold standard for partying as being generally boozy, sex-filled nights of reckless abandon, generally taking place at a trendy club and the primary agents being chauvanistic men with aviator shades, expensive clothing, sometimes jewlery, lots of swagger.

Turkey: A Brief Introduction

I've gotten a lot of questions about Turkish culture and society, so I thought I'd aggregate the information I've read and write a brief informative post about Turkey and the city I'll be living in, Alanya.

The Republic of Turkey was officially established in 1922, and in the years immediately following, actions were taken to end official Ottoman rule and build a government.

Hello again, welcome back to your non-Olympic connection to things that happened last week but which I actually wrote about at the time.

Or at least I though about writing. Here is the latest view of where I was when I was writing, or perhaps thinking about writing.

If you've just joined us, I recently completed a Busabout Sail Turkey trip.

Finally, I m taking a little pause for holiday in wonderful Aegean city of Bodrum. Although, I need to take a break, I can't take myself away of capturing beautiful stuff which I saw and share with you.

Eachtime I visit the 4,500 square meter store of Tas Design, I always astonished to see how tasteful everything in the store has been selected and nicely arranged to give perfect design ideas for laid back Bodrum living style.

Snow by Orhan Pamuk

How I found this book: I learned about Orhan Pamuk when I came across an article in the New York Times about a Turkish author who had written a book about a museum and was now planning to start a real museum based on the museum in his book. Since reading that article, I began noticing Orhan Pamuk's name everywhere.
